Ministry of Industry Strengthens Indonesia's Halal Industry

Jakarta, June 19, 2024 - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to strengthen Indonesia's halal industry as a strategic move to accelerate access to the global halal market. This effort is in line with the national policy based on Shariah economics rolled out by the Indonesian government. Andi Rizaldi, Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) at Kemenperin, mentioned that according to the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2023 released in Dubai, UAE, Indonesia has successfully ranked among the top three in The Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI), following Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

The domestic potential for halal products is significant, given Indonesia's Muslim population of 236 million people, making it not only a promising market for halal products but also a major opportunity for export. One sector expected to capture the global market is the textile and textile products (TPT) industry, particularly in items for religious purposes such as clothing and equipment for pilgrimage (umrah and hajj). Considering Indonesia's status as one of the countries with the highest number of umrah and hajj pilgrims, the demand for these products is substantial.
